The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) will host a hybrid public meeting on Monday, May 18, to introduce and discuss its new 10 CFR Part 53 final rule, titled “Risk-Informed, Technology-Inclusive Regulatory Framework for Commercial Nuclear Plants.” The rule, published on March 30, became effective on April 29.
NRC staff will provide an overview of the final rule and related implementation activities during the meeting, which is scheduled from 1:00 to 2:30 pm Eastern time. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions regarding the new framework.
The meeting will take place at the Commission Hearing Room, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. Attendees can participate either in person or online via Microsoft Teams. Those planning to attend in person must pre-register by May 15 by emailing anders.gilbertson@nrc.gov or jack.minzerbryant@nrc.gov. The NRC, an expert technical agency, regulates the civilian use of nuclear materials and is currently collaborating on reforms outlined in new Executive Orders and the ADVANCE Act to streamline its activities.
