Governor Ned Lamont and Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto today announced nearly $10 million in state grants will be awarded to nine rural communities across Connecticut through the Transportation Rural Improvement Program (TRIP).
This state-funded initiative, administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, aims to support rural communities that often do not qualify for many federal transportation programs. "Too often, our smaller towns get left behind when it comes to federal transportation dollars, simply because of their size. We established TRIP to change that," Governor Lamont said, emphasizing the commitment to safety and infrastructure in these areas.
Commissioner Eucalitto added, "Every town in Connecticut deserves resources to keep its roads and residents safe, regardless of population size." This third round of funding will address critical infrastructure needs, including bridge replacements in Canaan and Scotland, roadway reconstruction in Kent, and drainage improvements in Chaplin and Marlborough. Pedestrian linkages will be constructed in Haddam and Washington, while North Canaan and Preston will see significant road rehabilitation and resurfacing.
The TRIP program, established in 2022, has now invested approximately $30 million across 27 projects since its inception. This latest round continues to provide essential resources to improve safety and mobility, ensuring roads are safer and neighborhoods more connected for generations to come.
