The City of Fairfax has announced a diverse array of cultural arts events, including a new call for artists, film screenings, art workshops, and exhibitions, with activities scheduled from this month through 2026. These initiatives aim to engage the community and support local artists.
A new call for art is open for the popular Mini-Art Vending Machines, inviting submissions for 2-D, small-format designs under the theme "What America Means to Me." This project honors America’s semi-quincentennial in July 2026, with a submission deadline of Wednesday, June 24, at 4:30 pm. The machines offer an affordable way to collect unique, pocket-sized art.
Upcoming events include a Beginners Pastels Class with artist Karina Mossier on Saturday, June 13, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at Green Acres Center, requiring registration. Additionally, the ARTScreen Film Series will present “Jazz on a Summer's Day,” a concert film of the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival, on Friday, June 12, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at the Stacy C. Sherwood Center, offering free admission and refreshments.
The "Chromatic Currents" exhibition, celebrating Asian America, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, will have an opening reception on Thursday, June 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Stacy C. Sherwood Center. The exhibition itself will be on view from May 25, 2026, to August 21, 2026, showcasing visual energy and conceptual depth by Asian artists.
Looking ahead to 2026, the City of Fairfax will host Fairfax City Pride on Saturday, June 6. This free, family-friendly event, sponsored by Bond Vet, will kick off Pride Month with community vendors, children’s activities like caricatures and face painting, and music.
