Mayor Karen Bass today issued a statement mourning the passing of Captain Chris Yokoyama, a Los Angeles Fire Department Captain II of Station 95 and a 25-year veteran dedicated to keeping communities safe.

"Los Angeles mourns the passing of Captain Chris Yokoyama, a brave leader and an integral member of the Los Angeles Fire Department," Mayor Bass said. She highlighted his 25 years of service, noting his professionalism, courage, and unwavering dedication since joining Fire Station 95 in 2001.

Captain Yokoyama was also a champion handball player and a proud member of the LAFD Handball Team. Mayor Bass added, "His courage, leadership and commitment to others will leave a lasting impact on our city." She extended heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and every member of the LAFD.
