Two Troy men have been arrested and federally charged in connection with an armed robbery that resulted in the death of a Salado man on May 5, announced U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Justin R. Simmons.
Colton Carter, 20, and Donivan Bynum, 18, face one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, a violation of the Hobbs Act. Court documents allege that Carter's phone contained implicating messages and calls suggesting he orchestrated the robbery, while Bynum is accused of acting as a lookout during the incident.
If convicted, Carter and Bynum each face a potential sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison. The case is being investigated by the FBI, with support from the Temple Police Department, Milam County Sheriff’s Office, and Belton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Blanton is prosecuting the case, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
