The flooding is attributed to large volumes of water quickly flowing into creeks and waterways as rain falls on dry, arid slopes, with burn scars from wildfires rapidly funneling water into downslope torrents. The Canyon as a whole remains open to visitors, though with partial closures and restrictions.
