The Foundation for Defense of Democracies will host a live event, "Winning the Adoption War: Diffusing AI Across the U.S. Military," at 2:00 p.m. ET on October 1, 2026, featuring Major Megan "Napalm" Hainline, Isaac "Ike" Harris, and Leah Siskind, moderated by RADM (Ret.) Mark Montgomery.

The event is part of a slate of new FDD research and analysis published this week. In an FDD Memo, Ahmad Sharawi examines "Hezbollah's Shadow Economy in Post-Assad Syria," while a separate Sharawi analysis for FDD's Long War Journal reports that Syria said it thwarted a Hezbollah plot, with Israel the likely target.

Ben Cohen writes in an FDD Policy Brief that the UN Human Rights Council and European governments have launched "economic warfare against Israel." Clifford D. May's column in The Washington Times is titled "Medvedev's message."

On Afghanistan, Bill Roggio, featuring Thomas Joscelyn, marks 25 years since the U.S. invasion in an episode of Generation Jihad, FDD's Long War Journal podcast, titled "Operation Enduring Failure." Will Selber reports that anti-Taliban resistance claims attacks across Afghanistan in September.

Seth J. Frantzman writes in FDD's Long War Journal that U.S. forces have completed their departure from Iraq as the anti-Islamic State mission in Iraq ends.

FDD also highlighted coverage from other outlets, including President Donald Trump saying a FlyDubai pilot involved in an incident was "perhaps a terrorist," and reports that Saudi Arabia turned down an Israeli request to allow its planes to pick up Israeli passengers. Other items covered U.S. pressure leaving Iranian tankers stranded in Asian waters, a warning from a former Israeli national security council head that mounting pressure on Iran could lead to an attack on Israel, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte saying the alliance is defensive and that Russia should stop nuclear threats.

The FDD Overnight Brief is a daily product of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, a Washington, DC-based non-partisan policy institute focusing on foreign policy and national security.
