The District of Columbia Mayor's Office has highlighted a series of community celebrations from June and announced upcoming events for July, underscoring the city's commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and resident support under Mayor Muriel Bowser's leadership.
June saw extensive celebrations for Caribbean Heritage Month, Pride Month, and Juneteenth. The Mayor’s Office on Caribbean Community Affairs (MOCCA) hosted its 3rd Annual Caribbean Flag Ceremony, a CBE Workshop for Caribbean-owned businesses, and the 4th Annual Caribbean Cultural Concert. Concurrently, the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs (MOLGBTQA) marked its 20th anniversary with events like the LGBTQIA+ Flag Raising and the Capital Pride Parade. Director Carey of the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs (MOCA) said, "Proud to join community members in celebrating Caribbean Heritage Month, Pride Month, and Juneteenth through small business workshops, talent showcases, parades, and flag ceremonies that highlighted DC’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity."
Looking ahead to July, Mayor Bowser is expected to participate in both the Capitol Hill and Palisades Independence Day Parades. Other key events include "Loving Arms: Connections for Kinship" on Wednesday, July 15, at Capitol View Library, designed to support kinship caregivers. The Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs (MOVA) will host a Veteran Resource Symposium on Thursday, July 30, focusing on education resources. Additionally, the Mayor’s Office on African American Affairs (MOAAA) is partnering with the National Museum of African Art for “Stars, Stripes, and Stadiums: America’s 250th & FIFA 2026” on Saturday, July 18, and the Ward 7 Café Concert series will launch on the same day.
Beyond events, the District continues to offer vital resources and funding opportunities. The FY26 VPART (Violence Prevention & Response Team) Grant application is open until July 10, 2026, for nonprofits in violence prevention. The Mayor’s Office on Latino Affairs (MOLA) is running its Summer Training Enrichment Program (STEP) for Latino youth, and the Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs (MORCA) celebrated graduates of the Georgetown Pivot Program, supporting returning citizen entrepreneurs. MOVA is also compiling a list of Veteran-owned businesses to enhance collaboration and outreach.
