Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine celebrated the opening of the renovated Dairy Building at the Ohio State Fairgrounds, a century-old landmark known for its iconic butter cow and calf sculptures.
The renovation project, part of the larger Expo 2050 construction, focused on interior improvements and a new addition while preserving the historic brick exterior and archway. Key upgrades include utility improvements, a new roof, public restrooms, and a new recessed butter sculpture cooler designed to enhance visitor flow.
Governor DeWine expressed his personal connection to the building, saying, "Fran and I love seeing the butter cow and having ice cream with our grandchildren in the Dairy Building each year." First Lady DeWine added, "Memories are made here — and will continue to be made here — for years to come."
Scott Higgins, president and CEO of the American Dairy Association Mideast, thanked Governor DeWine and the Ohio General Assembly for their support, stating, "These improvements will strengthen our ability to serve fairgoers and create an even more welcoming and enjoyable experience for everyone who visits the Dairy Building." The Ohio State Fair is scheduled to run from July 29 through August 9, 2026.
