St. Paul resident Alexio Miranda, 32, has pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen firearm after taking a rifle and silencer from an FBI vehicle during a violent civil disturbance in Minneapolis on January 14, 2026.
Court documents reveal Miranda and an accomplice accessed the already damaged FBI vehicle, which was covered in graffiti and had its rear hatch open. Miranda then broke into a cargo vault, stealing a semiautomatic rifle, a silencer, and a satchel of ammunition. Police arrested Miranda two days later, recovering the stolen items.
Miranda was initially indicted on one count each of possessing a stolen firearm, possessing an unregistered firearm, and theft of government property. On June 26, 2026, he pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John R. Tunheim to one count of possessing a stolen firearm, an offense that could carry a maximum of 10 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for October 28, 2026.
U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen said, "This case shows that actions which endanger the public and interfere with federal law enforcement operations carry serious consequences." Assistant Special Agent in Charge Spence Burnett of the ATF St. Paul Field Division added that Miranda's choices put a stolen firearm "into the hands of a prohibited person: Raul Gutierrez, an alleged Latin Kings gang member." FBI Minneapolis Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson emphasized the commitment to ensuring individuals are held accountable through the federal justice system.
