Volunteer Firefighter Dies Responding to Call in Louisiana

Volunteer Firefighter Robert Hughes, 49, of the Meaux-Nunez Volunteer Fire Department, died on August 21, 2026, after his personal SUV crashed while he was responding to a motor vehicle collision in Nunez, Louisiana.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., Firefighter Hughes' vehicle left the roadway while navigating a curve and crashed into a ditch. He was ejected from the SUV.

Emergency personnel transported Firefighter Hughes to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. He had served as a volunteer firefighter for two years.
