The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center has issued its latest advisory, reporting no significant geomagnetic storms in the past week and forecasting a similar calm period ahead, though with a chance of radio blackouts. The outlook, released from Boulder, Colorado, covers activity from August 24-30 and provides a forecast through September 6.
During the past week, no G1 or greater geomagnetic storms were observed. However, R1 (Minor) radio blackouts occurred on August 24 and 26, peaking at R2 (Moderate) levels on August 25. Region 4513 was responsible for seven M-class flares, with the largest being an M6.9/1b (R2) flare on August 25. Solar radiation flux levels were elevated from August 24-26 before returning to normal.
For the upcoming period of August 31 to September 6, NOAA anticipates no G1 or greater geomagnetic storms and no S1 or greater solar radiation storms. There is, however, a chance for R1/R2 (Minor/Moderate) radio blackouts, with a slight possibility of an R3 (Strong) event.
