The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) is offering several summer programs designed to provide students and young adults with a firsthand look at public safety and career opportunities in law enforcement.
One program, "Police Leaders of Tomorrow," targets young adults aged 18-24 in the Metro Washington Area, running from June 22-26, 2026. Participants will engage in presentations and activities focused on public service, leadership, character, and community, including a ride-along with a sworn police officer.
For high school students, the "Teen Police Academy" (July 13-17, 2026) is open to Fairfax County students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade, offering insights into core police functions and hands-on activities. Additionally, "Future Women Leaders in Law Enforcement" (July 27-31, 2026) is available for high school girls in Northern Virginia, allowing them to explore various police functions like patrol and crime scene investigation and meet women leaders in the field.
The FCPD also offers a longer-term "Fairfax County Public Safety Cadets Program" for teens and young adults aged 14-20, focusing on leadership development, ethical decision-making, and mentorship. These programs present valuable opportunities to learn about policing and public service, though space may be limited.
