The Wall Street Journal's editorial board is reporting that Congress is attempting to address problems in college sports, noting that the NCAA has invited 535 athletic commissioners to weigh in on the effort. It said the outcome remains to be seen.
The Journal said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has settled a lawsuit over what it described as a coercive farm payment, a move the board framed as ending an "ESG dairy heist."
The board also said President Donald Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Florida G-20 summit despite what it called Putin's hybrid war, describing the invitation as another blessing for the Russian leader.
Separately, the Journal said the Congressional Budget Office has taken on the relationship between temperatures and Medicare spending in a new report.
In commentary, the Journal published a piece by Jillian Kay Melchior on Ukraine's drone mission control room, featuring a visit with the commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, Robert "Magyar" Brovdi, who it said has a warning for the U.S. and NATO. It also ran a piece by Manu Meel on campus civility and dialogue, describing a faculty group calling itself Uncivil that it said claims open conversation is right-wing and pro-Israel.
The Journal also published commentary by George J. Terwilliger III arguing the U.S. needs to defeat Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which he described as a terrorist group controlling a government determined to acquire nuclear weapons, and a piece by Burton G. Malkiel suggesting it is a good time to buy bonds.
In its columns, the Journal published Peggy Noonan's argument that Trump is in denial about AI's danger, saying he told the United Nations that concerns about mankind's future are a hoax. It also ran Holman W. Jenkins Jr. on whether the AI frenzy will add up to anything.
In its Potomac Watch podcast, the Journal discussed Trump's meetings with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, which it said resulted in an extended trade truce as Beijing presses the U.S. on Taiwan, and a federal judge halting Trump from banning CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House.
