Governor Janet Mills officially launched Dairy Month in Maine on May 28, 2026, urging residents to support the state's agricultural economy by purchasing locally produced dairy products.

Speaking at historic Brigeen Farms in Turner, Governor Mills, alongside Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Deputy Commissioner Nancy McBrady and dairy community representatives, emphasized the industry's vital role. "Maine's Dairy Industry is the cream of the crop," said Governor Janet Mills, encouraging the purchase of Maine-made milk, cheese, butter, and other dairy items. Milk bottled in Maine can be identified by a code beginning with the number 23.

Deputy Commissioner McBrady also announced that the Maine Cheese Guild's Maine Open Creamery Day will now take place on Saturday, June 14, 2026, aligning with Dairy Month. This event offers opportunities to visit creameries for tours, tastings, and farm experiences. Maine's dairy sector, comprising over 130 farms, contributes nearly $3 billion annually to the state's economy and supports more than 13,000 jobs, while preserving 700,000 acres of farmland.
