Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Franklin and Hardin Counties in response to severe weather that began on July 20, 2026. This declaration allows state resources to be utilized for recovery efforts and activates key assistance programs for residents in both counties.
The proclamation enables the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program, which offers grants up to $7,000 for households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. These grants can cover home or car repairs, replacement of personal property or food, and temporary housing expenses. Applicants must submit original receipts for reimbursement and have 45 days from the proclamation date to apply.
Additionally, the Disaster Case Advocacy Program has been activated to address serious needs related to disaster-related hardship. This program, which has no income eligibility requirements, provides guidance, advice, and referrals to help clients create a disaster recovery plan. It will remain open for 180 days from the date of the governor's proclamation.
