Virginia Steel and Fabrication, Inc. will invest $3.6 million to expand its operations in Bland County, Virginia, creating 52 new jobs and more than tripling its current workforce.
The expansion, announced by Governor Abigail Spanberger, aims to upgrade and automate manufacturing equipment, increase production capacity, and boost operational efficiency in response to growing market demand.
Governor Spanberger congratulated Virginia Steel, noting its 30-year presence in the community. "By making new investments in advanced manufacturing technology and more than tripling its workforce, Virginia Steel is demonstrating that innovation and job creation go hand in hand," said Governor Spanberger. She added that the expansion strengthens a homegrown Virginia business, creates new opportunities for Southwest Virginia, and reinforces the Commonwealth’s position as a leader in advanced manufacturing.
The company, founded in 1994, provides custom steel fabrication, welding, and steel purchasing services for commercial and industrial construction projects. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery emphasized that this expansion exemplifies how local, regional, and state partners collaborate to drive economic growth across the Commonwealth. Virginia Steel Directors Shaun Huffman and Blake Ray highlighted the investment as being "first and foremost an investment in the people of Southwest Virginia," creating long-term careers and strengthening the region's manufacturing workforce.
Bland County Administrator Cameron B. Burton expressed pride in supporting Virginia Steel's continued growth in Bastian, calling the company a "cornerstone of our community." The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Bland County, the Mount Rogers Regional Partnership, and the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission collaborated to secure the project. Governor Spanberger approved a $200,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund, with additional support for employee training provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
This strategic expansion is set to enhance Virginia Steel's production capabilities and contribute significantly to the economic vitality and advanced manufacturing sector of Southwest Virginia.
