The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced that 288 individuals faced immigration-related criminal charges during an enforcement operation conducted from April 17 to April 24, 2026. The charges included 147 cases for illegal re-entry into the United States, 113 for illegal entry, and 24 cases against 28 individuals for smuggling illegal aliens within the district.
These enforcement actions were supported by various federal law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO), ICE Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the FBI, the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Among the cases, Jesus Jose Alvarez-Ramirez was charged on April 24, 2026, with Bringing an Alien to the United States Unlawfully. He was apprehended near Dateland, Arizona, after a U.S. Border Patrol Agent responded to a report of three individuals attempting to conceal themselves. Alvarez-Ramirez was identified as a foot guide who brought two other Mexican citizens, both unlawfully present, from Mexico into the U.S., with his fee for the crossing to be paid later.
These efforts are part of "Operation Take Back America," a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice. This operation aims to address illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime, leveraging resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
