The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) has been recognized nationally for its innovative Drone as First Responder (DFR) program, earning the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2026 Achievement Award and the "Best in Category" honor for Criminal Justice and Public Safety. This prestigious award highlights the department's commitment to leveraging technology for enhanced public safety and crime prevention within the community.
In addition to the DFR program, the FCPD's West Springfield District is actively promoting its voluntary Community Camera Sharing Program, which allows residents and businesses to register their security cameras to assist detectives in quickly identifying potential video evidence during incidents. The department also maintains an Open Data Portal, providing public access to police-related data, crime incidents, and traffic trends to foster transparency and keep residents informed.
Major Ryan Lazisky, Commander of the West Springfield District Station, emphasized the importance of community involvement. "The West Springfield District Police Station remains committed to keeping our community safe," Major Lazisky said. He added, "Thank you for staying engaged, reporting suspicious activity, and working alongside us to make West Springfield a great place to live, work, and visit." The district plans several community engagement events throughout August and September, including "Juice Box with Cop," National Night Out, and Community Advisory Committee meetings, encouraging direct dialogue between residents and officers.
These initiatives, coupled with ongoing crime prevention and traffic safety tips, underscore the FCPD's dedication to maintaining a safe and vibrant environment. Major Lazisky concluded, "Together, we can continue making West Springfield a safe, welcoming, and vibrant community for all."
