A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck the Rat Islands region of the Aleutian Islands in Alaska early on May 6, 2026.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the seismic event occurred at 04:15 local time (14:15 UTC) at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located approximately 235.2 kilometers (145.8 miles) east-southeast of Attu Station, Alaska.

The National Earthquake Information Center confirmed that a seismologist has reviewed the preliminary report for the event, which supersedes a previous alert. The U.S. Geological Survey will provide subsequent updates and technical information as it becomes available.
