Poynter is reporting that it recently hosted its second annual "Breaking Into Books" workshop, co-led by faculty member Kristen Hare and Sam Freedman. The workshop focused on principles of narrative nonfiction, developing a research practice, understanding the publishing industry, writing book proposals, scene writing, and peer reviewing. During the workshop, Poynter's Roy Peter Clark shared advice, paraphrasing poet William Stafford, suggesting that the antidote to writer's block is to "lower your standards and raise them as you go."
Poynter also highlighted a sponsored message for the University of Maryland's Howard Center Data Journalism Training Program. The program offers affordable, self-paced online courses in data analysis, visualization, and integrating artificial intelligence into journalistic workflows. It aims to help students globally elevate investigative reporting in their communities.
