The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) has revealed that financial institutions flagged nearly $5 billion tied to suspected human smuggling activities over a three-year period. This significant finding comes from a new Financial Trend Analysis, which examined Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) data from 2023 to 2025.

The analysis identified consistent indicators of illicit activity. These included unverifiable relationships between the originators and beneficiaries of transactions, as well as financial movements occurring along common migration routes.

Furthermore, FinCEN's report highlighted excessive cash activity concentrated along the southwest border of the United States. These patterns provide crucial insights for combating human smuggling operations.
