The U.S. Department of War, in collaboration with L3Harris and Lockheed Martin, has announced two significant seven-year framework agreements aimed at substantially increasing the production capacity for crucial components of the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) weapon system. This initiative is part of a broader effort to bolster the nation's defense industrial base.

Under the PAC-3 MSE agreement, L3Harris will accelerate the manufacturing of its advanced two-pulse solid rocket motor, Attitude Control Motors, and the Lethality Enhancer. These components are vital for providing the interceptor with the necessary speed, extended range, and precise maneuverability to effectively counter advanced tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and enemy aircraft.

Concurrently, a separate agreement involving the Department of War, L3Harris, and Lockheed Martin focuses on the THAAD interceptor propulsion. This deal will expand the production of two critical elements: the solid rocket boost motor, which launches the interceptor, and the highly responsive Liquid Divert and Attitude Control System (LDACS). The LDACS is essential for the interceptor's in-flight maneuverability, enabling it to engage and neutralize ballistic missile threats both within and outside Earth's atmosphere.

Michael P. Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, emphasized the importance of these agreements, stating, "Rebuilding the Arsenal of Freedom requires moving with speed and precision to scale the production of critical munitions." He added that these deals are a "decisive win for the Warfighter," signaling clear demand to the supply chain. These actions align with the Department's Acquisition Transformation Strategy, designed to streamline processes and foster a more robust and responsive defense industrial base by providing stable, long-term demand signals to industry.
