The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is reporting that registration is open for CAIRCon 2026, a two-day event in September featuring a policy conference and annual gala. It said the event will gather influential leaders from government, media and advocacy to engage in high-level conversations impacting the Muslim community.
CAIR also announced the launch of Muslims.Vote, a national voter engagement platform. It said the platform is designed to equip American Muslims with tools and resources to empower voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections and the upcoming Michigan primary on Aug. 4.
The organization released a new episode of its podcast, "CAIR on AIR," featuring activist Hillary, known online as "Opening My Heart 24." It said Hillary, who reverted to Islam in 2024, discussed her journey to Islam and her advocacy for Palestinian human rights.
CAIR welcomed assault charges filed in connection with a threat targeting a New Mexico Catholic priest who supported a proposed mosque. It said no faith leader should face intimidation or violence for defending constitutional rights and religious freedom, commending Father Chavez for his courage.
In collaboration with the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), CAIR plans to host a series of in-person regional safety trainings for mosques, Islamic private schools and other faith-based institutions. It said the first training is scheduled for Aug. 8 in northern Virginia, following a terror attack on the Islamic Center of San Diego, and will provide guidance on preventing and addressing threats, including active shooters.
CAIR called on members of Congress to condemn Israel's actions in Gaza. It said the organization urged lawmakers to speak out against the "slaughter of children" and pressure the Israeli government to stop the killings, which it described as occurring with American taxpayer dollars and weapons.
KSL is reporting that Shuaib Din, imam of the West Jordan-based Islamic Community Center, has contacted CAIR about opening a chapter in Utah. It said Edward Ahmed Mitchell, a CAIR representative, visited Utah to highlight dangers faced by the Muslim community. FOX is reporting that CAIR-MI responded to comments made by Farmington school board member Angie Smith, calling them an "anti-Arab racist outburst." It said CAIR-MI Executive Director Dawud Walid condemned Smith's "inaccurate and misguided comments."
