Governor Jim Pillen announced today the nomination of 28 census tracts across Nebraska for designation as federal opportunity zones, submitting them to the U.S. Treasury Department. This action falls under the new Federal Opportunity Zones Program (OZ 2.0), authorized by Congress in 2025.
The announcement, made in Lincoln, Nebraska, saw Governor Pillen joined by key officials. These included Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) Director Maureen Larsen, alongside mayors from several Nebraska cities: John Ewing of Omaha, John Fagot of Lexington, Linda Taylor of McCook, and Shane Clausen of Norfolk.
