Bryan Galicia-Barillas, a 29-year-old Guatemalan national and former inmate at Yazoo Correctional Complex, was sentenced on June 30, 2026, to 18 months of incarceration for assaulting a United States officer. Galicia-Barillas had previously pleaded guilty to and was serving a sentence from 2018 for RICO conspiracy related to his involvement in MS-13 gang-related murders.
The conviction stems from an incident on or about May 28, 2025, when Galicia-Barillas struck a senior Bureau of Prisons official in the head with his fists during lunch. He was found guilty at trial on March 16, 2026. This new 18-month sentence will be served consecutively to his existing sentence.
The case was investigated by the FBI. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Baxter Kruger of the Southern District of Mississippi and Special Agent in Charge Robert A. Eikhoff of the FBI Jackson Field Office.
