KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Holly Mikkelsen, a former treasurer for the Summit Pointe Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (SPE PTA), has pleaded guilty to nine counts of bank and wire fraud for embezzling over $100,000 from the non-profit organization.
Mikkelsen, who resided in Lee’s Summit, Mo., served as SPE PTA treasurer from approximately August 17, 2020, through July 23, 2025. During her tenure, she made unauthorized withdrawals from the SPE PTA’s checking accounts for personal financial gain. Her methods included writing and signing fraudulent SPE PTA checks to herself, withdrawing cash from ATMs, and transferring funds to her personal accounts.
She now faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison without parole. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for September 24, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Beth Phillips. This prosecution was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Kansas City Division, and aligns with federal efforts to combat fraud, including President Donald Trump’s Task Force to Eliminate Fraud and the newly established National Fraud Enforcement Division.
