The Social Security Administration said the operational status of its local offices, card centers and hearing offices in Georgia has changed.
In a notice to beneficiaries, the agency directed the public to check the current status of their local office before visiting. The agency also said many people may not need to visit an office at all, noting that a lot of business can be handled online.
The Social Security Administration highlighted a range of popular online services, including reviewing a latest statement, checking earnings history, estimating retirement benefits and checking the status of an application or appeal.
Beneficiaries can also apply online for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits, or appeal a medical decision. Other online options include changing an address, setting up or changing direct deposit, printing proof of benefits and printing a 1099.
The agency also pointed users to its FAQs and to online requests for a replacement Medicare card or a replacement Social Security card.
The Social Security Administration encouraged the public to "Go Digital!" and create a personal my Social Security account, saying millions of people already use it to access their benefits.
