The Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) announced a significant increase in the adoption of its GPA Trucker mobile app, which streamlines operations for truck drivers at the Port of Savannah. Since its launch in October 2025, user enrollment has surged from under 900 to over 4,000, enhancing efficiency for the port's front-line customers.
The GPA Trucker app provides crucial on-terminal container location data and delivers digital gate transaction tickets via push notifications, minimizing the need for paper documentation. "We’re happy to see the trucking community using the app to streamline the driver experience. Truckers are our front-line customers. Faster turn times for them make our entire port operation more productive," said GPA President and CEO Griff Lynch, adding, "Our goal is to make it easier for drivers to use our ports."
The app also helps drivers navigate port facilities more efficiently by showing their location relative to pinned container positions and identifying the closest terminal gate. This is particularly beneficial at the Port of Savannah, which manages over 14,000 truck gate moves on an average weekday. Truck turn times average 32 minutes for single transactions and 50 minutes for dual moves.
In a further move to expedite gate access, GPA is implementing facial recognition technology at its Garden City Terminal gates. Following a successful trial, this technology is now available at all inbound lanes at Gate 3, marking the first phase of a broader rollout. While drivers must still carry their TWIC cards, enrolled drivers no longer need to present them at equipped lanes. Enrollment for facial recognition is separate from the app and requires a TWIC card.
The GPA Trucker app is optional at the Garden City Terminal but is now exclusively used for digital tickets at the smaller Ocean Terminal. The app also offers biometric login and sends alerts regarding gate hours and weather updates, further improving communication and operational flow for drivers.
