Breaking Defense is reporting that the prospects for a new reconciliation bill are growing murky in Congress. It said U.S. lawmakers, attending the Farnborough airshow in the United Kingdom, indicated that they are tapping the brakes on the Pentagon's reconciliation spending request. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., stated there would not be a third reconciliation package, suggesting that any included provisions would not advance.
Separately, the defense secretary urgently requested nearly $90 billion in supplemental funding. It said this request is partly intended to cover costs associated with the Iran conflict.
Breaking Defense also reported that the House of Representatives passed the 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, but the measure remains stalled in the Senate. House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Ala., noted that while some provisions in the bill faced disagreement, its passage was a single step in a long process.
