Lead Stories is reporting that it recently debunked several pieces of misinformation, including claims about the 2020 election and fake content involving public figures. It said a Census Bureau analysis did not find over 24,000 potential noncitizens voting in the 2020 election, contrary to claims made by President Donald Trump.
Lead Stories also fact-checked a fabricated social media post falsely attributed to Trump, which purportedly referred to servicemembers at USS Lincoln as "suckers and losers." The organization found no evidence of such a post on his Truth Social account or in credible media reports. Additionally, Lead Stories identified an AI-generated video showing Abdul El-Sayed and Ms. Rachel discussing Israeli "colonizers" as fake, with an AI detection tool assigning it a 100% confidence score.
Looking ahead, Lead Stories announced a collaboration with four other news organizations to fact-check the 2026 U.S. midterm elections. This initiative, described as a first-of-its-kind joint campaign among U.S. fact-checkers, aims to combat the increased spread of inaccurate information, including AI-generated falsehoods. The participating organizations include Factcheck.org, PolitiFact, AFP Factcheck and Factchequeado. All five organizations are verified signatories of the International Fact-Checking Network’s Code of Principles, which sets universal standards for accuracy, transparency and independence.
