Governor Sherrill announced today that MLS NEXT Pro soccer is coming to New Jersey, with a new professional club set to begin play in Middlesex County at NEXUS next summer. The announcement was made alongside representatives from Hometown Soccer Holdings, MLS NEXT Pro, and New York City FC, marking a significant expansion for professional sports in the state.
"New Jersey is a soccer state, and we're proud to welcome our newest professional soccer club to Middlesex County and NEXUS," Governor Sherrill said. "Starting next summer, New Jerseyans will get to see elite soccer played in our own backyard."
The Governor emphasized that bringing professional soccer to NEXUS will provide fans in the heart of the state with a team to support, while also creating new opportunities for athletes and bolstering New Jersey's growing sports economy. She anticipates that the new club will attract fans from across the country, benefiting local businesses through increased tourism for food, shopping, and entertainment.
