A community tip received during this year’s National Night Out (NNO) has led Reston detectives to identify and charge a suspect, Junior Gonzales-Coello, 31, with 18 criminal offenses related to multiple burglaries and vehicle-related thefts, including the recovery of a stolen firearm.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division attended NNO events on August 4, where a community member provided video footage of a man entering an unlocked vehicle. This crucial information allowed detectives to identify Gonzales-Coello, who has no fixed address, and link him to similar incidents across the Reston Police District.
Gonzales-Coello was apprehended on August 18 around 2 a.m. in the 11900 block of Bowman Towne Drive. During his arrest, officers found an AR-15-style rifle and magazines among his possessions. Investigators determined the firearm had been stolen approximately an hour earlier from a vehicle and an open garage in the 1900 block of Crescent Park Drive.
He faces charges including four counts of Vehicle Trespass, three counts of Burglary, three counts of Grand Larceny, two counts of Vehicle Tampering, two counts of Petit Larceny, two counts of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of a Schedule I/II Drug. Additionally, five outstanding warrants from another jurisdiction were served, and he is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Detectives continue their investigation, with additional charges pending.
