RALEIGH, N.C. – Quashon Nixon, a 32-year-old convicted felon from Wilmington, has been sentenced to over seven years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. Nixon pleaded guilty on February 26, 2026, to the charge of possessing a gun as a convicted felon, with his sentencing handed down by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III.

Nixon's arrest occurred on October 2, 2024, when the FBI and local officers located him in Wilmington to serve outstanding warrants for violent crimes. During his apprehension, officers discovered a loaded, stolen gun in his waistband, along with crack cocaine, marijuana, and a hatchet in his book bag.

U.S. Attorney Ellis Boyle commented on the sentencing, saying, "We thank our dedicated federal and local law enforcement partners for keeping violent gun-toting felons away from our citizens. This guy knew he should not have a gun; hopefully, he learns his lesson this time." Nixon is a documented member of the Bloods street gang with a history of violent offenses, including robbery with a dangerous weapon in 2015, felony assault against a law enforcement officer in 2016, and felony assault with a deadly weapon in 2018. The case was investigated by the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Wilmington Police Department, and the FBI.
