US and Coalition Forces to Reduce Military Mission in Iraq

The United States and its coalition partners will reduce their military mission in Iraq, according to Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell. This decision follows President's guidance, the U.S.-Iraq Higher Military Commission, and a joint statement issued on Sept. 27, 2024. The reduction reflects the success in combating ISIS and aims to establish a lasting U.S.-Iraq security partnership, aligning with U.S. national interests, the Iraqi Constitution, and the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement.

According to Parnell, this partnership will bolster U.S. and Iraqi security, enhancing Iraq's capacity for economic development, foreign investment, and regional leadership. The U.S. Government will maintain close coordination with Iraq and Coalition members to ensure a responsible transition.
