Former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has launched the Public Service and Policy Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania, a new program designed to connect past mayors with future leaders. Hosted by the Weitzman School of Design and the Penn Institute for Urban Research, the initiative aims to foster civic engagement and knowledge sharing.
The initiative introduces two new programs, including the Impact Scholars Program, which has named former Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and former Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum as its inaugural scholars. This program brings experienced civic leaders to the university to share their insights.
Weitzman Dean Fritz Steiner emphasized the university's historical role in civic development. "From its earliest days, Penn has been a place where civic leaders converge to share their experiences and deepen their knowledge for the betterment of society, and the Impact Scholars Program continues the tradition," Steiner said. The initiative seeks to continue this legacy by providing a platform for dialogue and learning.
