Newsweek is reporting that Sen. Jon Ossoff says he is not planning to run for president, but that the 2028 speculation has not stopped. In an exclusive interview, more than two dozen people who know the 39-year-old Georgia senator personally and professionally described him as unusually disciplined, empathetic and focused on the nuts and bolts of governing, Newsweek said. It said his anti-corruption message has resonated with voters disillusioned with Washington, while his $81 million fundraising haul has put him at the top of the Democratic field this cycle. Jonathan Alter, who wrote the first national magazine cover profile of Barack Obama, told Newsweek that if Ossoff decides to run, he is in a pretty good position.

Newsweek is also reporting that record-high diesel prices are forcing the Trump administration to act. It said diesel averaged a record $6.53 a gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA, up from $3.69 a year earlier, spiking in large part because of the Russia-Ukraine and Iran wars. Sen. Chuck Grassley, a Republican farmer from Iowa, has urged President Trump to temporarily restrict diesel exports, arguing it could bring relief to farmers, truckers and other Americans facing soaring fuel costs, Newsweek said. It said the policy could also reduce refinery production, push up gasoline prices and hit some regions harder than others. Trump said at the United Nations that he had called for a ban inside his administration, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said officials were weighing feasibility, but no order had been issued as of Wednesday, Newsweek reported.

Newsweek is reporting that the AI boom is colliding with this year's Senate races, with voters across party lines pushing back against data centers over electricity costs, water use and their impact on local communities. It said eight of the nine close contests it identified are in states with at least one planned data center, and that candidates in Maine, Texas and Ohio are already turning the issue into a campaign talking point. Recent NBC News polling found a 12-point lead for one party on "dealing with data centers," while a New York Times/Siena poll gave Republicans a two-point edge on artificial intelligence overall, within its margin of error, Newsweek said.

Newsweek is reporting that Trump TV, a new 24-hour YouTube stream dedicated to the president and his administration, functions less like a live news channel and more like a curated White House playlist, replaying selected speeches, events and promotional footage while giving viewers little context or independent reporting. It said the channel eventually aired Trump's U.N. speech shortly after midday, but the delay exposed an ambiguity about whether Trump TV is a live channel, an archive or an around-the-clock presidential highlight reel. There are no anchors, interviews or reporters examining the claims being made, Newsweek said.

Separately, Newsweek reported that President Donald Trump has signed a new security agreement with Denmark and Greenland that expands the U.S. military presence on the Arctic island, building on a defense treaty that has governed American military access there for 75 years. It also reported that the number of U.S. military fatalities linked to the Iran war has increased to 19 after the death of a female officer, and that Iran's U.N. delegates walked out of the General Assembly as Trump spoke about the last six months of Iran's military strikes.
