The Port of Oakland is once again offering its popular free harbor tours to the public, running monthly from June through October 2026. These narrated 90-minute boat tours provide a unique opportunity to observe the Port's extensive shipping operations firsthand while enjoying a sunset cruise along the Oakland Estuary and San Francisco Bay.
Port of Oakland Chief Public Engagement Officer Matt Davis emphasized the tours' value, saying, "These tours present a great opportunity for local residents to better understand the Port’s dynamic role in the regional economy." He added that seeing the "iconic cranes and massive ships up close provides a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Port as seen from the water," highlighting the nearly 100,000 local jobs the Port supports.
Tickets for the initial June 12 tour became available online on June 2 at 8 PM. Subsequent tour tickets will be released two weeks prior to each scheduled date at 8 PM, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests can also join a standby list at the Oakland Ferry Terminal in Jack London Square, where cruises depart.
The tours offer educational insights into the Port's history, current operations, and its "clean-and-green plan" for achieving zero-emissions. Due to high demand, tickets often sell out within minutes of release, with each tour accommodating approximately 250 passengers.
