Mars Petcare US, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall for two lots of PEDIGREE® Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor 13.2oz wet dog food after discovering the products, intended for destruction, were fraudulently diverted and sold in the United States. The recalled items did not meet the company's stringent safety and quality standards.
The affected dog food may contain metal and plastic foreign material, posing potential health risks to dogs. Ingesting sharp objects could lead to choking, lacerations, or blockages in the gastrointestinal tract. Mars Petcare US advises consumers whose dogs consumed the product and are concerned to contact their veterinarian.
Mars is actively collaborating with authorities to determine how these products entered the marketplace. The company has confirmed that, to date, no reports of pet illness or injury related to the recalled food have been received.
