Leonardo Román-Domenech, 40, of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for the transportation of child exploitation material. U.S. District Court Chief Judge Raúl Arias-Marxuach also ordered 10 years of supervised release following his prison term. Román-Domenech pleaded guilty on February 2, 2026, after being indicted on April 3, 2025, and arrested on April 9, 2025.
Court documents reveal that from July through October 2021, Román-Domenech used a cellphone with internet capabilities to knowingly transport images depicting a 15-year-old female minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
The case was investigated by the FBI and the Puerto Rico Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emelina Agrait Barreto of the Child Exploitation and Immigration Unit prosecuted the case. This action is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
