Virginia State Parks are preparing for a diverse array of activities throughout August, inviting visitors to enjoy everything from stargazing and paddling to outdoor adventures and educational programs focused on pollinators. The parks encourage friends and family to plan their next outing to experience these upcoming events.
Throughout the summer, the parks will host various music series events, offering relaxed evenings with genres including bluegrass, jazz, gospel, country, rock and roll, symphony, and contemporary music. The Richmond Symphony is also slated to perform at Pocahontas Premieres.
Looking ahead, fall camping is highlighted as an ideal getaway, promising cool air, vibrant foliage, and quieter trails. Guests can anticipate waking up to colorful leaves, spending days hiking or paddling, and relaxing by cozy campfires with s'mores under starry night skies. Reservations for fall sites are currently open.
Upcoming events for August 2026 include International Adaptive Activity Day at Mason Neck State Park, "Let's Go Orienteering" at Machicomoco State Park, and "Stock Creek Passage" at Natural Tunnel State Park. Other scheduled activities are "Mulberry Hill Tours - Virginia Agriculture" at Staunton River Battlefield State Park, "The Lost Lighthouses of the York River Kayak Trip" at York River State Park, and "Birding in the Riverine Forest" at Powhatan State Park.
Virginia State Parks are also seeking individuals passionate about the outdoors for full-time, part-time, and seasonal roles. Opportunities are available in maintenance, interpretation, law enforcement, housekeeping, volunteer coordination, and office support, supporting both conservation efforts and visitor experiences.
