Two Troy men, Colton Carter, 20, and Donivan Bynum, 18, have been arrested and federally charged in connection with an armed robbery on May 5 that resulted in the death of a Salado man. The charges stem from alleged Hobbs Act violations, as announced by U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas, Justin R. Simmons.

According to court documents, a criminal complaint alleges that messages and phone calls from Carter's phone implicated him in setting up the robbery. Bynum is alleged to have been with Carter, acting as a lookout during the incident.

Both Carter and Bynum face one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery. If convicted, they each could face up to 20 years in federal prison. The FBI is investigating the case with support from the Temple Police Department, Milam County Sheriff’s Office, and Belton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Blanton is prosecuting the case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
