The City of Fairfax is set to host a vibrant array of cultural arts events and opportunities, including the 2026-2027 Bonita Lestina Old Town Hall Performance Series, extended deadlines for public art proposals, and new programming for young children. The city also recognized local arts organizations receiving significant grants.
The Bonita Lestina Old Town Hall Performance Series promises an "unforgettable season" with a fresh lineup of inspiring artists and diverse musical styles. Performances begin October 16 with the Alfred Yun Quartet at the Stacy C. Sherwood Center, followed by iMusical on November 6, and Bokor/Snedecor/Hill on November 20. The series continues into 2027 with acts like The Capital Hearings, Roberta Lea, Celtic Aire, and the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia, concluding with Kadencia on April 16.
Artists are encouraged to submit proposals for two public art opportunities, with the deadline extended to October 16, 2026, at 4:00 PM. These include a large-scale mural for Thaiss Park and designs for three Noblewins benches. Additionally, the Early Childhood Arts Program, formerly Funday Monday, will introduce children ages 2-5 to various art forms. Free "Dancing on the Square" workshops will also take place Thursdays in September at Old Town Square, offering guided sessions and open dancing.
The City of Fairfax also congratulated the City of Fairfax Band Association, Inc. and the City of Fairfax Theatre Company as recipients of the ArtsFairfax Operating Support Grant for FY27, recognizing their contributions to the local arts scene.
