Mayor Bass Calls for Dedicated Funding to Protect Open Street Events

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, in her inaugural meeting as LA Metro Board Chair, advocated for dedicated funding to support Open Street and Slow Streets Events, including popular CicLAvia events, through March 2028. This initiative aims to ensure the continuation of these community-focused activities across the city.

Mayor Bass emphasized the significance of these events, stating, "As a lifelong biker and native Angeleno, I know how important open street events like CicLAvia are to our city and the L.A. region." She highlighted their role in bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and reimagining public spaces, fostering a strong sense of community.

Her call urges Metro to identify and secure the necessary funding to protect and sustain these cherished events for the coming years.
