The Port of Oakland has announced the appointment of Sharla Sullivan as its new Director of Social Responsibility, effective August 4, 2026. In her new role, Sullivan will spearhead the agency’s efforts to expand contracting and business opportunities for small and local enterprises, foster workforce development, and advance the Port’s community engagement initiatives.
Kristi McKenney, the Port of Oakland’s Executive Director, praised the appointment, saying, “Sharla is a well-known champion in our community with a strong passion and expertise in developing economic growth for all residents, from all backgrounds.” McKenney added that the Port looks forward to expanding its impact under Sullivan’s leadership to provide more jobs and careers for local residents and opportunities for small businesses.
Matt Davis, the Port's Chief Public Engagement Officer, highlighted Sullivan's qualifications. “Sharla brings a unique combination of community credibility, strategic vision, and proven leadership to the Port of Oakland,” Davis said. He emphasized her critical role in advancing the Port's commitment to inclusive economic development and ensuring investments benefit the communities served.
A Bay Area native and mother of three, Sullivan brings decades of experience in community engagement, workforce development, and supplier diversity. She previously served as Outreach and Partnerships Manager at Webcor, where she delivered public and private construction projects across California.
Sullivan is a passionate advocate for empowering future generations, dedicating over a decade to the Architecture Construction Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate Oakland Team. She also serves on the boards for the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity and the Junior Center of Art and Science, and has received multiple awards for her contributions to education and supplier diversity.
