The Cornell Chronicle is reporting that a collaboration with Cornell University is bringing relief to Vieques, a small Puerto Rican island still lacking reliable power nine years after Hurricane Maria, through the development of a microgrid. It said Matt Marx will lead the new Cornell Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation as vice provost for entrepreneurship, innovation and external engagement. The Chronicle also reported that an academic "boot camp" with the Warrior-Scholar Project visited campus, helping military personnel build confidence to pursue higher education. Additionally, it noted that training artificial intelligence for tasks like enforcing baseball rules is a dynamic process requiring extensive testing.

Separately, The Independent is reporting that Cornell's Flavio Lehner, from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, expressed significant concern over the "cold blob" in the North Atlantic. He said the potential collapse of the major ocean current system would be so dire that waiting for confirmation is not advisable. NPR is reporting that Chris Barrett of the SC Johnson College of Business commented on the potential impact of a fertilizer shortage, caused by the Iran war, on U.S. food prices. He said most consumer price increases expected in the fall would not directly relate to fertilizer.
