The Kyiv Independent is reporting that its membership community numbers roughly 35,000 readers and spans more than 100 countries. It said the newsroom is independent and reader-funded, relying on neither paywalls, governments nor wealthy owners, and that its journalism remains free for all.

The outlet said only about 1% of its members are based in Ukraine, with the rest supporting its work from abroad. It said members are located in more than 1,000 cities, towns and villages, and that the United States holds the most pins on its interactive community map, followed by the United Kingdom and Canada.

The Kyiv Independent said Sweden has the highest number of members per capita, with Denmark and Norway close behind. It said it also has a small number of pins in Russia, though it cannot verify whether those members are currently there.

The outlet said it has members on every continent except Antarctica. It said each new member helps strengthen its newsroom, expand its reporting and keep its journalism free, and it invited readers to add their own pin to the map.
