Governor Abigail Spanberger recently highlighted record investments in education and career development programs across Virginia, including a new Career and Technology Center in Roanoke. These efforts follow the signing of Virginia's bipartisan biennial budget, which allocates a historic $2 billion in new public education funding.
During her visit to Roanoke, Governor Spanberger toured the Roanoke County Public Schools Career and Technology Center, a facility set to open in January 2027 that will offer training in over 20 different career fields. She also greeted students and teachers at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School, emphasizing the state's commitment to strengthening schools.
The recently signed budget, the largest investment in public education in Virginia's history, also includes a four percent raise for teachers and support staff. Additionally, $519 million in grants has been allocated for school construction, aiming to ensure safe and modernized learning environments for children.
"Virginia’s schools are vital to the growth of our children and setting them up for success in their future careers," said Governor Abigail Spanberger. She added, "As Governor, I am working to support students, teachers, and parents as we work to strengthen schools across every corner of the Commonwealth and at all levels of education — including career and technical education programs."
Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jamie Soltis underscored the importance of career and technical education, stating, "Our business and industry partners are counting on us to help develop the skilled workforce of tomorrow." Jason Suhr, Director of Career and Technical Education, noted the center's strong partnerships with business leaders across various industries.
