Jose Eleazar Aceves-Garcia, 30, of Guatemala, was sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Dubuque, Iowa. Aceves-Garcia pleaded guilty on November 20, 2024, to conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine mixture and 50 grams of pure methamphetamine.
According to the plea agreement, between January 2019 and January 2022, Aceves-Garcia distributed at least 400 pounds of ice methamphetamine to a co‑conspirator in the Dubuque area. His fingerprints were found on two packages containing over seven pounds of ice methamphetamine, which he mailed to the co-conspirator in Dubuque. He also distributed a kilogram of heroin to the co-conspirator.
Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Aceves-Garcia in Cedar Rapids to 151 months’ imprisonment, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. Aceves-Garcia remains in United States Marshal’s custody until he is transported to a federal prison.
The Dubuque Drug Task Force, Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Dubuque Police Department, Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, United States Postal Inspection Service, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Criminalistics Laboratory investigated the case. Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake prosecuted the case.
