Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel today launched the third round of the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, engaging a record 650,000 students from over 2,100 schools across all 88 counties in Ohio. This initiative aims to foster healthier habits among young Ohioans, marking a significant expansion since its inception in August 2025.
The Challenge has seen remarkable growth, with student participation increasing by nearly 255% in just one year, establishing it as one of the largest statewide youth wellness efforts in the nation. Lt. Governor Tressel emphasized the program's deeper impact, saying, "The most exciting part isn’t how big this Challenge has become. It’s knowing that well over half a million young people are going to learn something about themselves along the way."
Open to students in grades 3-8, the free program encourages development in fitness, nutrition, sleep, goal setting, and gratitude. Participants receive a workbook to track progress towards bronze, silver, and gold achievement levels. Hundreds of current and former collegiate and professional athletes will serve as mentors, providing encouragement and sharing lessons on confidence, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.
Throughout the fall, Tressel and Ohio athletes will conduct high-energy school assemblies, workouts, and mentorship visits across the state. The Team Tressel Fitness Challenge runs from August 31 to December 4, 2026, inviting parents, teachers, coaches, and community leaders to get involved and support Ohio's next generation in building lasting healthy habits.
